For the purpose of showing the complete process of getting your NBI Clearance, I’ll split this article into two phases. The first is the online phase and the second is the personal appearance to your appointed NBI branch.
For first-timers, it’s inevitable to visit an NBI branch.
First Time Job Seekers
You may be a first-time job seeker or applicant. In that case, you can have your NBI Clearance free of charge.
If you’re a first-time job seeker, you may read the other article for a complete guide on How to Get Your NBI Clearance for First Time Job in 2022.
NBI Clearance Online Appointment 2022
As I said before, the first step to getting an NBI Clearance is to make an appointment online. An online appointment is required because you need to select your preferred NBI branch to visit.
NBI branches that are nearest to you are the best choices.
Since this process is online, you’ll explore the world of the internet. If you’re not a techy individual, you may ask for assistance from someone else who can facilitate the process.
You’ll be needing the following:
- Stable internet connection (can be a mobile data)
- Laptop, PC, or smartphone device (android or apple device)
- Personal information
- Active mobile number and Email address
- Time and patience
Step 1: Go to https://clearance.nbi.gov.ph.
NBI Clearance Online Registration and Application Services is the official website or online portal where you can make an online appointment or renew your NBI Clearance purely online.
You’ll be prompted to agree to their Data Privacy Agreement. Click “I Agree” in order to proceed.
Step 2: Register for New Account.
Scroll down until you see the box that says REGISTER just like below. The view may be different depending on the device you’re going to use.
If you previously owned an NBI Clearance issued from 2014 up to the present, you need to tick the “Yes”.

If you choose this, you need to provide the old NBI ID Number. So if you haven’t had your old NBI Clearance issued from 2014, you may safely select “No”.
You’ll be treated as a first-time applicant in this case.
For first-timers, you need to register your new account. Provide all the needed information as shown on your screen.

After you click signup, expect an OTP in your mobile number and email address. Enter the six-digit code and click “Submit”.

The registration is successful if you see this message on your screen.

Step 3: Edit Your Personal Information.
Now that you have your account, you can log in to it and make an appointment.
But before making an appointment, you MUST edit your personal information. All of the details provided here will be stored in the database of the NBI.
So make careful and proceed with accuracy.
As an overview, the dashboard will look like the image shown below for both mobile and laptop or PC devices.
As this is my personal dashboard, I filtered out some personal information to prevent identity theft.

Start by clicking the button that says “Edit Information”. On the new page, fill in your information.

You can take it slowly but surely as there are no time constraints in editing your information. Unlimited changes can also be made.
Step 4: Schedule NBI Online Appointment.
After you’ve edited your information, you’re now ready to make an online appointment.
Click the button that says “Apply for Clearance“.
A popup will show and let you choose the ID you’ll present when you visit your appointed branch.

Choose your preferred branch. Ideally, the nearest to you is the best.

Now, select your preferred payment method which I recommend to be GCash. It’s the most convenient way to pay your NBI Clearance Application fee.
You may select other options but for this guide, I’ll just cover the GCash payment guide.

Click “Proceed” in the next popup and you’ll be shown the summary of fees you’ll pay. Click “Proceed to Payment”.

Your reference number will be shown as well as the total amount of fees including transaction fees. Click “Accept” to continue.

You can view your transaction history on the left pane >Transactions.

To pay the total amount due, you need to open the GCash app.
Unfortunately, the Scan QR function is not working for reasons I don’t know at the time of making this article.
So you have to do the manual process which is pretty much easy.
Go to Pay Bills > Government > NBI.
Enter your reference number, contact number, the exact amount, and optionally, enter your email address so you can receive an email confirmation receipt.
Save a copy of your receipt or take a screenshot as a backup.
After some time, your payment will be validated and you’ll see in your NBI Clearance transaction history that the status has already been updated from red “Pending” to green “Paid”.
NBI Clearance Personal Appearance
Yes, you still need to make a personal appearance after you’ve made your appointment. Applicants CAN’T use a proxy in this case.
So visit your appointed branch on the appointment date. I recommend being early as possible. You might not want to fall in long lines.
Make sure to prepare (2) valid IDs.
This is now a requirement. Back then, applicants bring only one valid ID but you must follow the rules to avoid application rejection.
At the branch, you’ll do the following procedures before the release of your NBI Clearance.
- Photo Capture
- Fingerprint scanning
- Data Verification
Photo-capture and fingerprint scanning are the primary reasons for a personal appearance at the branch especially if you’re a first-time applicant.
So if you’ve stumbled upon people offering NBI Clearance applications without appearance, better stay away from them.
Avoid giving your personal information to strangers.
DATA VERIFICATION – The NBI will verify your data. If you have a “HIT” as what NBI calls, then you may be asked to return after (7) to (10) working days. At that time, you can only claim your NBI Clearance.
A HIT happens when you have the same information as other applicants.
So to make sure that you and the other applicants are different individuals, the NBI will verify in-depth the information you’ve provided.
Luckily, if you have no HIT, you’ll be released an NBI Clearance within the same day. And now you have your NBI Clearance you can use for any legal purpose.

To avoid non-serving of applicants within a day period, the NBI requires applicants to make an online appointment. In this way, they can choose when to make a personal appearance and avoid long lines and crowded situations.
