How to Get NBI Clearance for First Time Jobseeker in 2022

Getting hired for your first job is actually your first job itself after you’ve finished your schooling.

It’s a lot harder than you think. Before you apply for your first job, you need to secure pre-employment documents such as an SSS Number, PhilHealth Number, Pag-IBIG Number, and Taxpayer’s Identification Number (TIN).

Your future employer might also require some documents such as a transcript of records and an NBI Clearance.

But securing an NBI Clearance will cost you ₱130.00 at the time of writing this article.

Luckily, you can get your NBI Clearance free of charge if you’re a first-time jobseeker.

All thanks to the Republic Act No. 11261 also known as the First Time Jobseekers Assistance Act.

First-Time Jobseekers

The above-mentioned law primarily aims to provide help for our fellow first-time jobseekers in mitigating expenses before applying for a job.

That’s good news, right?

Aside from NBI Clearance, First Time Jobseekers Assistance Act states that you can obtain the following documents without paying fees and charges.

  • Police clearance certificate;
  • National Bureau of Investigation clearance;
  • Barangay clearance;
  • Medical certificate from a public hospital;
  • Birth Certificate;
  • Marriage Certificate;
  • Transcript of academic records issued by state colleges and universities;
  • Tax Identification Number (TIN);
  • Unified Multi-Purpose ID (UMID) card; and
  • Other documentary requirements.

In order to get a Free NBI Clearance, you need to submit proof of eligibility. The above-mentioned law states that you need to present a barangay certification stating that you’re a first-time jobseeker.

The Process

Getting an NBI Clearance for a first-time jobseeker will be split into two parts. You need to make an online appointment first to select your preferred branch.

After which, you need to make a personal appearance in your selected branch.

REMINDER – If you see people offering their service to secure an NBI Clearance for you without (you) making a personal visit to any NBI office, it’s probably a SCAM.

You may not visit an NBI branch or office only and only if you’re about to renew your NBI Clearance and get it delivered to your house.

So, I recommend staying away from them.

After all, the NBI Clearance online appointment is free and easy to do.

NBI Clearance Personal Appearance: First Time Jobseeker

Personal appearance is MUST in securing your NBI Clearance unless you’re only renewing it. Applicants CAN’T use a proxy in this case.

So, visit your appointed branch on the appointment date. I recommend being early as possible. You might not want to fall in long lines.

Make sure to prepare (2) valid IDs.

This is now a requirement. Back then, applicants bring only one valid ID but you must follow the rules to avoid application rejection.

At the branch, you’ll do the following procedures before the release of your NBI Clearance.

  1. Photo Capture
  2. Fingerprint scanning
  3. Data Verification

Photo-capture and fingerprint scanning are the primary reasons for a personal appearance at the branch especially if you’re a first-time applicant.

So, if you’ve stumbled upon people offering NBI Clearance applications without appearance, better stay away from them.

Avoid giving your personal information to strangers.

DATA VERIFICATION – The NBI will verify your data. If you have a “HIT” as what NBI calls, then you may be asked to return after (7) to (10) working days. At that time, you can only claim your NBI Clearance.

A HIT happens when you have the same information as other applicants.

So, to make sure that you and the other applicants are different individuals, the NBI will verify in-depth the information you’ve provided.

Luckily, if you have no HIT, you’ll be released an NBI Clearance within the same day. And now you have your NBI Clearance you can use for your first job application.
